You have made a decision to change something in your life but don't know how to do it. You know you want it, but it seems almost impossible to make it happen.
When you first decided to change your whatever, it seemed like the best idea that you ever had. It was easy and attainable and nothing could stop you. You were sure that you were going to do it.
And then the next day came and you woke up with the same old doubtful feelings that you have had about so many of your great ideas in the past. The doubts turned into fears and your self-talk made you realize that it was no use to even try because you had no time, no money to waste on it, no one to help you, no one would like it, others would judge it, some would be upset because you wanted to change and the truth was that it was probably a stupid idea anyway.
So you gave up just like you have done many times before and go back to your present situation, trying to forget about whatever it is that you wanted to change. Sound familiar? You are not alone because most people do the exact same thing.
We are all creatures of our habits and without being aware of how we operate, we keep repeating our same lifestyle patterns. We go through our days thinking the same thoughts as the day before and do most of the same things. Trying to change anything threatens our habitual thought pattern and so our subconscious mind kicks in and overrides any new thought process forcing us back into our everyday, ordinary mode of operation which makes us feel safer than trying something new and uncertain.
Although every one says that they want to change, most of us stay in the same familiar existence throughout our lives, missing out on so many opportunities because we did not dare to take a few steps out into that big unfamiliar place of doing something different.
The only way to make any kind of change is to get clear on what changes you want to make. Then decide to change it and take small action steps until it becomes an exciting and positive part of your life. They say that to create a new habit, you must repeatedly do the same thing for 21 days until it becomes an accepted and regular part of your life. Try it for yourself on something simple that you want to change and go from there.
To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.
~Winston Churchill
